Dr. Colleen Shogan Appointed as Board Chair of Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation

Press Release | April 28, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, Dr. Colleen Shogan was appointed Board Chair of the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation (WSNMF).

“Congress tasked the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation with changing the commemorative landscape and ensuring that the 36 million people who visit our Nation’s Capital each year experience a deeper American story,” said Shogan. “It is my honor to lead this critical effort.”

Shogan has almost fifteen years of federal government service, and is currently Senior Vice President at the White House Historical Association and the Director of the David Rubenstein Center for White House History. She was the Vice Chair of the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission and previously worked in the U.S. Senate and as a senior executive at the Library of Congress. She teaches at Georgetown University in the Government Department.

Shogan and the WSNMF board and staff will now work in partnership with the National Park Service to lead the effort to fund, design, and construct a national monument to serve as a lasting legacy of the early American movement for women's equality.

SUPPORT
Amongst our most iconic monuments and memorials, American women’s stories are missing. Today, fewer than 5% of statues in our Nation’s Capital depict women. And we need your support. Like most monuments and memorials in Washington, D.C., the Women's Suffrage National Monument will be funded in its entirety through private donations. Learn more about our movement, donate, and be a part of making history.
